Too Young For Child Care?

In Barbados, babies get their first shots at six weeks old and it is recommended that babies do not attend day care centres or nursery before these shots are given at six weeks.

However, if the baby's parents do not want to immunise the child or need to have the child taken care of before that time, care must be taken if one is considering leaving the baby at a nursery or day care centre.

Every centre is governed by a set of rules and these rules might not give them permission to accept a child younger than six weeks old.  The parents must, in the interest of the child, check the rules and the faciltiy where the baby would be cared for to ensure that there is adequate staff and care for new born babies.
